Update, January 2007
In this process, nickel is chemically
deposited on the interior of the cylinder as a phosphide complex.
The finish used in this application is characterized by the
following excellent features.
- Corrosion Resistance
- Non-porous
- Low Stress
- Passivation
It is recommended that the starting cylinder be new and have a
surface with an SA rating of no less than 2.5. The cylinder is
mechanically polished* to yield a surface Ra of less than 1 micron.
Plating is accomplished using a unique process in which temperature
and circulation are rigidly maintained and film deposition is
controlled to a thickness of approximately one mil. The cylinder is passivated and finally capped. This treatment in no way affects the
integrity or pressure rating of the container. A final pre-treatment
such as a wash/bake/vacuum is always recommended before placing the
container into service.
*Pre-polishing of the cylinder is required in all instances.
